Legendary Music-Maker's Doc Closes Nashville Jewish Film Fest Tonight with Special Guests

Posted by on Thu, Nov 15, 2012 at 9:06 AM

If Jerome Felder — a.k.a. Doc Pomus — had done nothing but write the magnificent "Save the Last Dance for Me," he'd still be worthy of a statue wherever workers in song gather. But with writing partners such as Mort Shuman and the immortal team of Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller, the polio-stricken child of Jewish immigrants penned a portfolio of rock and R&B treasures, from "This Magic Moment" and "A Teenager in Love" to Elvis' hits "Surrender" and "(Marie's the Name) His Latest Flame."

The documentary A.K.A. Doc Pomus makes a fitting cap to the Nashville Jewish Film Festival, which wraps up its 12th event tonight with a pre-show nosh and happy hour 5:30 p.m. at the Pancake Pantry and a 7 p.m. screening at The Belcourt. Special guests for tonight's screening are singer/songwriter and author Marshall Chapman and BMI director of writer/publisher relations David Preston.

Tickets for this "Closing Night Supper & Song" are $30; the film only is $10. Click here for more information.
